Michael Cammarata has more than 25 years’ experience in the field of intellectual property. He concentrates his practice on the procurement, evaluation, licensing and management of worldwide intellectual property portfolios.
Michael has experience in various computer-related technologies both hardware and software related, image processing, telecommunications, consumer electronics and industrial systems. His technical experience also extends to the fields of cloud computing, video and audio coding, digital electronics, signal processing, optics, microprocessor-based control systems and business methods.
Licensing experience includes drafting, revising and negotiating intellectual property licenses as in-house counsel for a telecommunications company and as outside counsel for various other clients. Michael has also been asked to provide opinions relating to licensing issues. He lectures on licensing issues and runs a licensing workshop.
Michael’s work history as in-house counsel, patent examiner and outside counsel enable him to synthesize a variety of factors to provide comprehensive and strategic client counseling services. To that end, he writes opinions and counsels clients on infringement, validity, patentability, product clearance, risk analysis, inventorship, trademark, copyright and software issues. He also advises clients on patent portfolio management, strategic counseling and disputes with non-practicing entities.
As in-house counsel for a telecom equipment maker, Michael led a strategic patenting initiative that included analyzing competitive landscapes, drafting original applications and managing outside counsel. Currently, he oversees patent portfolios for startups and Fortune 500 companies including some of the world’s foremost technology companies.
