USPTO proposals could increase burden on TM counsel

BSKB Partner Michael Smith was recently quoted in an article for Managing IP. The article covers recent suggested changes by the USPTO regarding "correspondence with attorneys about registered trademarks." Mr. Smith argues against these proposed changes, saying that the current system makes it easier for registrants to avoid USPTO impersonators attempting to scam registrants through false communication. It is also easier because the contacted attorney will have the necessary docketing software and trusted communication, whereas registrants most often do not.
